Resisting an irresistible force wears you down and turns you out. I know. I've been doing it for years.

I may not have a musical gift of my own, but I've got a nose for talent and an eye for the extraordinary. And Marlon James - Grip to his fans - is nothing short of extraordinary.

Years ago, we strung together a few magical nights, but I keep those memories in a locked drawer and I've thrown away the key. All that's left is friendship and work.

He's on the verge of unimaginable fame, all his dreams poised to come true. I manage his career, but I can't seem to manage my heart.

It's wild, reckless, disobedient. And it remembers all the things I want to forget.

Neither of us has been in a serious relationship in years.”

“That doesn’t mean anything.” I stand and slide my feet into the Jimmy Choos. “You haven’t exactly been waiting around, have you?”

“Damn right I haven’t been waiting around.” He doesn’t get up, but his firm hold on my wrist stops me from walking away. “I’m not Rhyson.”

I look down at him, frowning my confusion.

“What do you mean?”

“Remember when Kai put Rhyson in the friend zone?”
Of course I do. For a long time, my sister-in-law Kai denied the attraction between her and Rhyson.

“Yeah, so?”

“When Kai wasn’t checking for Rhys, I assumed he had to be sleeping with other girls.” Grip shrugs. “I mean, he and Kai were just friends. But, nope. He said he only wanted Kai and didn’t sleep with anyone else.”

“Then you’re right.” I tug at my wrist, but he holds on tight. “You’re definitely not Rhyson.”

“It was months, Bristol. She shut him out for months. Not years.”

“I’m not shutting you out.” I release a tired breath. “I’m living my life, and you’re living yours.”

“Right.” He nods and turns his mouth down at the corners. “So, if you won’t be with me, then I’ll fuck whoever the hell I want. If you have a problem with that, you know what to do about it.”

For a moment, our eyes tangle in the dimness. His words sink into my flesh like briars. Every word out of his mouth only proves that I’m right to get out of here. That I’m right not to give in. If I ever gave him a chance and he fucked around on me . . . I’ve seen what that looks like. It looks like a woman as strong as my mother reduced to pathetic, teary drunkenness.

“It’s none of my business.” I shift my eyes away from him and to the glittering city skyline just beyond the rooftop.

“It’s none of your business until you say it is.”

I force myself to look back.

“Don’t hold your breath, Grip.” I say my next words with deliberation. “I mean, it’s not like I’m sitting around saving it, either.”

He pulls me forward, and I press my hand to the hardness of his chest so I don’t fall into him. My knee supports me, pressed against his on the couch.

“Are you poking me?” One strong hand wraps around the back of my thigh, anger marking his expression. “Do you want to know if it bothers me when you fuck other guys?”

I just stare at him unblinkingly. He presses my leg, urging me forward until I’m fully on the couch, fully on him, one knee on either side of his legs, facing him. Straddling him.

“It makes me want to set the world on fire.” His words come softly, but the truth roars in his eyes. “To think of you with them.”

My Review

Back in June I was working at a signing in Cleveland and towards the end of the day I was talking to one of the authors. She asked me who I was going to talk to next and I said "I'm going to go see Kennedy Ryan." This author immediately responded with "Oh my god! Have you read Flow and Grip yet?" I admitted I hadn't read any of Kennedy's books and she was like "Go now! Go buy them and read them! They are amazing!" So I went and bought them.I read a lot for the blog so it wasn't until about a month later that I picked up Flow. I went the park and brought it with me thinking I'd read a couple chapters. Well, once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. I finished in no time and then I was mad at myself because I didn't bring Grip with me and I wanted to read it at that very second. Once I got home I remedied that problem and I fell deeper in love with Bristol and Grip.

In Flow, Bristol goes to LA to visit her estranged brother Rhys. When Rhys is unavailable to pick her up at the airport he gets his friend Marlon, aka Grip, to do it. Bristol is a bit taken aback that her brother is not there and she's not sure what to think about Grip. He grew up in the projects and witnessed things that Bristol can't only imagine. But h
e's also a poet and a romantic. As her brother is kept busy with work, Grip and Bristol spend a time together. And most of that time is just them talking. By then end of the trip, these two have fallen head over heels for each other. But unfortunately for both of them, the trip ends on a terrible note and Bristol leaves absolutely heartbroken.

Grip takes place eight years later and Bristol not only helps run her brother's music label, but she also manages a few music acts, including Grip. They've managed to stay friends despite what happened between them, but there is no denying that they still have feelings for each other. Well, there is on their part, but you can tell that there is still a seriously strong feelings between them. And when those feelings start to come to the surface, Bristol and Grip find themselves doing things to help them forget the other person. Things that start a chain reaction of events that could bring them together or break them apart forever.

For a large part of the book these two are fighting their feelings for each other, especially Bristol. She knows that if she gives into her feelings, she could lose herself in him. And that is the last thing she wants. Eventually these two reach their breaking point and from there on out, it is all about Bristol and Grip. And it is so freaking beautiful. All those years apart and so much lost time to make up for. Them being together is extremely difficult at times, but the pay off is absolutely glorious.

Kennedy's writing is so gorgeous.
Her words leave you breathless. They make your heart ache. And they will probably make you cry, like I did. Basically you will feel everything the characters feel. The friendship. The sadness. The joy. The uncomfortableness. (Trust me when I say there is plenty of that.) The acceptance. And most of all...the love. SO. MUCH. LOVE.

The book also tackles some topics that are extremely relevant today. Things that I can't even imagine happening to me. Things I can only learn more about and try my best to understand. Things I may never fully understand because of the color of my skin. And I thank Kennedy for writing about them.

Kennedy, thank you for giving us Bristol and Grip. This is a series I have already told multiple people to read and I will continue to do so, especially since Still is about to release. I can't wait!

RELEASE DAY BLITZ & 5 STAR REVIEW: Lucas (Cold Fury #8) by Sawyer Bennett

Lucas (Cold Fury, Book #8)

Sawyer Bennett Release Date: September 19, 2017

The Carolina Cold Fury hockey team is stacked with hotshots. But when a new player joins their ranks, he learns that even superstars can’t go it alone when it comes to love.

Lucas Fournier is only serious about one thing: hockey. The league’s fun-loving charmer, Luc is always up for a good prank or a great lay, and he has no intention of settling down. But being traded to the Carolina Cold Fury—and to play alongside his big brother, Max—is no joke. With another title in sight, the last thing Luc wants is to let his new teammates down. To succeed, Luc will need to keep his head in the game and the most . . . er, demanding member of his anatomy in check. But when temptation hits, Luc hits back harder.

Museum curator Stephanie Frazier has always put business before pleasure, which just about explains her nonexistent sex life. But when Stephanie meets Luc at a champagne-fueled gala, she finds herself flirting like crazy—and going home with the uninhibited athlete. For one night, she learns what passion is all about. She just never counted on the little surprise Luc leaves behind. And that’s when things really start to get . . . interesting.

Sawyer Bennett’s New York Times bestselling Carolina Cold Fury series can be read together or separately.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

These Cold Fury guys just keep getting better and better. *sigh* I loved Max Fournier and when I found out that his brother was getting a book, that made me very happy. Luc is now playing for the Cold Fury and life is great. One night, while at a charity event, Luc meets Stephanie. Turns out she works at the museum where the event is taking place and she makes quite an impression. They go home together, have an amazing night, but don't see each other again until Stephanie tracks him down to tell him she is pregnant.

Luc is initially shocked and a bit skeptical, but it doesn't take him long to get on board with the whole baby thing. And about making a reader swoon. Luc must have taken some lessons from his brother because that dude knows how to woo a lady. Unfortunately for him, Stephanie is wary about letting him into her life. Not because she doesn't want a father for her baby, but because she doesn't want to "catch feelings" for Luc. Her less than ideal upbringing has given her a weird definitely of what love is and she just knows that he will change that. And she's not ready. So of course their relationship has it's bumps along the way and I absolutely loved that Luc was the driving force behind making it all work.

This book is a great addition to the series. There are so many sweet moments between Luc and Stephanie, but there are also some sexy ones that will have you make you need a cold shower! Of course we get to see Max and Julianne as well as some of the guys and ladies from the previous books. I love that we get glimpses into how everyone is doing. AND this book introduces the characters of the next book in a big way! It's about Luc and Max's sister Simone and their teammate Van. Van is one of those super hot cranky guys and Simone gets under his skin. And apparently his sheets. Bring it on!

RELEASE BLITZ: Dear Bridget, I Want You by Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland

Dear Bridget,

I’m writing this letter because it’s highly doubtful I’ll ever garner the courage to say this to your face.

So, here goes.

We’re totally wrong for each other. You’re the proper single mum with a good head on your shoulders. I’m just the carefree British doctor passing through town and temporarily living in your converted garage until I head back to England.
But here’s the thing… for some bloody reason, I can’t stop thinking about you in very inappropriate ways.

I want you.

The only reason I’m even admitting all of this to you right now is because I don’t believe it’s one-sided. I notice your eyes when you look at me, too. And as crass as I appear when we’re joking around about sex, my attraction to you is not a joke.

So, what’s the purpose of this note? I guess it’s a reminder that we’re adults, that sex is healthy and natural, and that you can find me just through the door past the kitchen. More specifically, it’s to let you know that I’m leaving said door cracked open from now on in case you’d like to visit me in the middle of the night sometime.

No questions asked.

Think about it.

Or don’t.

Whatever you choose.

It’s doubtful I’ll even end up sliding this letter under your door anyway.

5 Star Review: Sugar by Mandi Beck

Country’s hottest bad boy.

That’s what they call me. My label ate it up until I became “too bad” for the good folks of country music. That’s when Hard Candy Records picked me up and took a chance on me. Probably not their smartest move, but I won’t tell them that. Especially when they’ve assigned me a babysitter to try and keep my ass out of trouble. One smart-mouthed, unimpressed, sexy as homegrown sin, Addy Mae Masterson.

She likes to pretend that she doesn’t like me and I like to let her.

I may have a past that haunts me and she may have a habit of getting attached, but damn if I don’t want to show her just how good this bad boy can be.

My review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

I may not like country music, but I sure do enjoy reading about country singers! And in this book we are brought back into the world we read about in Stoned. Stone and his band mates have started their own label, Hard Candy Records, and that label is Beau McRae's last hope. His current label has had enough of his bad boy ways and has let him go.

So when he meets with his manager and the label's rep Addy Mae Masterson he knows she's his last hope, but he still can't help himself. He's a cocky bastard and knows exactly how to push her buttons. They both leave the meeting thinking about the other person and I couldn't help but think "Ooooh let the fun times begin!!"

Beau's actions of the last couple months make it seem like he only makes poor choices. The tabloids paint him as a player and his actions back that up, deep down he's just a good ole country boy. Returning home and spending time with his family and working on the farm is exactly what he needed. And meeting Addy helped a lot too. Addy is a spitfire and definitely makes Beau work for her affections. She's wary about getting involved with him, but he's just a bit too charming for his own good. He wins her over in no time and they find themselves in a relationship. Unfortunately ghosts of the past are there making things difficult and they both have to decide if it's worth making it work.

This book is sexy, sweet and even a bit heartwarming. Addy and Beau are such a great couple. They're sexy and playful, but also intense and emotional. I loved them and I hope we get to see more of them in upcoming books!

Mandi Beck has been an avid reader all of her life. A deep love for books always had her jotting down little stories on napkins, notebooks, and her hand. As an adult she was further submerged into the book world through book clubs and the epicness of social media. It was then that she graduated to writing her stories on her phone and then finally on a proper computer.

A wife, mother to two rambunctious and somewhat rotten boys, and stepmom to two great girls away at college, she shares her time with her husband and boys in Chicago where she was born and raised. Mandi is a diehard hockey fan and blames the Blackhawks when her deadlines are not met.

RELEASE BLITZ & 5 STAR REVIEW: Melt by Carrie Aarons

Title: Melt
Author: Carrie Aarons
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: September 17, 2017

You scream. I scream. We all scream during … well, you get the point.

After a failed eight-year relationship and a cross-country move, the last thing I’m looking for as a single mom is a new flame. In fact, diapers, walls marked in crayon, and daycare pickup are the only things on my to-do list.

Enter Jake Brady, your friendly neighborhood food truck owner whose dimples and delicacies won’t seem to leave well enough alone. With more popularity than the president, his wine-infused sweet treats have our nation’s capital hooked. He’s spontaneous, smug and all-American gorgeous; a dangerous combination considering he has no interest in taking on the responsibilities that rule my life.

But when we can’t seem to sample enough of each other’s … desserts, things start to get complicated. Jake is biting off more than he can chew, and when I watch him with my daughter, I can’t seem to freeze my melting heart.

Maybe it’s his waffle cone. Maybe it’s his … banana split. Either way, I think I’m in trouble with a cherry on top.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Samantha is a single mother who has returned home with her three year old daughter Lennon. Starting over isn't easy and just as she is getting into the swing of things she meets Jake. Turns out they went to college together and he harbored a little crush on her. He asks Samantha out and she says yes. Their first date doesn't go as well as they hoped, but they are both determined to make things work. Even if that means taking things slow.

I knew I would like this book as soon as I found out that Jake drove a food truck that served alcoholic ice cream. YUM. But that was just the beginning of what I loved about him. At first he doesn't handle the whole single mother thing very well but, he slowly warms up to the idea. It helps that Lennon one is freaking ADORABLE and can win pretty much anyone over. And it isn't long before he finds that he wants to be there for Samantha and Lennon....permanently. He's thoughtful, sweet, kind and quite the gentleman at times.

I loved this book. It's a sweet story (pardon the pun) with a bit of originality. I liked that Jake owned a food truck and Samantha worked for the Parks Service. Something simple like that, careers that I have never seen in a book before, made a big difference. Of course the main attraction is Samantha and Jake's relationship and it didn't disappoint. There were times when those two could have melted all the ice cream in Jake's truck. That's how hot they were. And don't even get me started on Jake's relationship with Lennon....SWOON.

If you're looking for a quick, relatively drama free read, I recommend 1-clicking this book. You won't be disappointed!
