On the Way to You, an all-new emotional standalone from Kandi Steiner is LIVE!

On the Way to You by Kandi Steiner
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publishing Date: November 16th, 2017

What makes you happy?

That was the question Emery Reed asked me the day we met, and I couldn’t give him a single answer. I could have said my dog, or my books, or yoga — but I just stared.

And then, I got in his car.

It was crazy to take a road trip with a stranger, but after years of standing still, he was my one-way ticket to a new life, and I wasn’t going to miss it.

We shared the same space, the same car, the same hotel room — and still, we were strangers.

One day we’d be laughing, the next, we wouldn’t speak. Emery was surrounded by impenetrable walls, but I wanted in.

Discovering his journal changed everything.

I read his thoughts, words not meant for anyone’s eyes, and the more I learned about him, the harder I fell. It turned out nothing made Emery Reed happy, and I wanted to change that.

I earned his trust by violating his privacy, and as wrong as it was, it worked — until one entry revealed a darkness I never knew existed, a timer I never knew was ticking.

Suddenly, what made me happy was saving Emery from himself. I just didn’t know if I could.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

What makes you happy?

Sounds like an easy enough question, doesn't it? So when Emery walks into Cooper's diner and asks her that, she is unable to give him an answer. Cooper has had a rough life, but has somehow managed to look on the bright side of life. Emery has had a pretty good life, but you would never know it. And When the two of them go on a road trip together it ends up being the trip of a lifetime.

Emery is taking the trip to the west coast because it is something that his grandmother wanted him to do. She wanted him to visit her favorite places and possibly have the same experiences she did. Cooper is looking to get away from small town Alabama and start a new life as a college girl I Seattle. When Emery suggests that Cooper take the trip with him she is hesitant, but with a bit of a push from a friend, she quickly finds herself driving cross country with her dog and a guy she doesn’t know.

This book is an emotional ride.
The road trip may have brought Cooper and Emery together but I feel like these two would have eventually found each other. It was just meant to be. Cooper has the patience of a saint to deal with Emery, but it’s definitely worth it. What starts as an innocent road trip turns into so much more. Emery and Cooper form a bond that only strengthens throughout the trip. The two of them meet people along the way that help shape the way they look at not only the world, but each other. They both carry scars from the past, but those scars have made them the people they are today.

By the end of the book Cooper is able to answer the question “What makes you happy?” But it takes a lot to get to that point. I laughed. I cried. I asked myself the question that set this whole trip in motion and you may find yourself doing the same thing. And you now what? Just like Cooper, finding the answer may not be as easy as you think.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Kandi Steiner is a Creative Writing and Advertising/Public Relations graduate from the University of Central Florida living in Tampa. Kandi works full time as a social media specialist, but also works part time as a Zumba fitness instructor and blackjack dealer. Kandi started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic (like most girls brought up on Disney movies). When Kandi isn’t working or writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys beach days, movie marathons, live music, craft beer and sweet wine – not necessarily in that order.
